On Thursday, Peloton encountered difficulties as numerous users struggled to access the Thanksgiving ride, leading to an official apology from CEO Barry McCarthy. The 10th annual "Turkey Burn" event aimed to establish a Guinness World Record for the "largest live cycling class." However, high demand posed challenges for the company, resulting in many users being unable to participate.
In a statement, McCarthy expressed regret, stating, "We let you down." Although thousands of individuals were able to join the event, the exact number of those who couldn't participate remains unclear. McCarthy attributed the technical issues to the overwhelming number of members attempting to join, which strained their technical infrastructure.
Peloton's status page documented "elevated errors with live classes" for approximately an hour, starting shortly after the event began. Users who managed to access the ride reported technical difficulties during the live class. The company is actively addressing the situation to ensure a smoother experience for future events.
At the time of writing all systems appeared operational.
