Liverpool is set to welcome the UK’s first public floating sauna later this year. WYLD Sauna will be located on a floating pontoon at Prince’s Dock, offering a unique contrast bathing experience with a 30-person Finnish sauna and cold-water therapy options. The sauna, scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2024, will include two ice baths, cold waterfall showers, and heated outdoor showers equipped with salt rubs, along with direct access to the dock for a refreshing post-sauna dip.

The facility will feature outdoor seating and changing rooms complete with hair dryers, lockers, mirrors, and swimsuit dryers, ensuring guests have a comfortable experience. WYLD Sauna aims to provide an accessible wellness retreat for residents, visitors, and commuters, offering pay-as-you-go sessions starting at £5 per hour.

Peel Waters, a specialist in waterside regeneration, is partnering with WYLD Sauna to deliver this new addition to Liverpool’s waterfront attractions. The project has already gained approval from Liverpool City Council and is in the final stages of construction.

WYLD Sauna, founded by UK outdoor swimming and sauna enthusiasts, was inspired by the increasing popularity of floating saunas in Scandinavia. The company’s long-term goal is to expand the sauna concept to docks, lakes, and harbours across the UK, using the Liverpool location as a model for future developments.

“This is a landmark moment, and we’re thrilled to launch the UK’s first floating sauna at Liverpool Waters,” said Jon Miller, co-founder of WYLD Sauna. Miller also highlighted plans for a floating café to accompany the sauna, offering refreshments and snacks for guests.

The opening of WYLD Sauna comes as contrast therapy is experiencing rapid growth within the fitness and wellness industry. Once a niche practice, the use of hot and cold treatments—alternating between heat exposure in saunas and cold immersion—has gained significant traction for its reported health benefits. From improving circulation and boosting recovery to enhancing mental clarity and reducing inflammation, contrast therapy is now increasingly incorporated into wellness routines worldwide. WYLD Sauna's floating facility aims to make this increasingly popular wellness practice accessible to a wider audience, offering a unique opportunity for people to experience the benefits of contrast therapy in an urban setting.
