Adidas Training and Bumble are addressing a widespread challenge in the fitness community: gym intimidation, commonly known as "gymtimidation." In a unique collaboration, they have introduced the "Gym Buddy" interest badge on Bumble. This feature allows members to showcase their interest in fitness and connect with potential matches who share a passion for physical activity. The initiative is aimed at creating a space for next-gen gym enthusiasts to meet and experience the benefits of training together.

To gain deeper insights into gym intimidation, Adidas conducted international research. The study revealed that nearly one in three people have avoided the gym altogether due to feelings of intimidation. The primary causes include fear of judgment, lack of confidence in using gym equipment, uncertainty about progressing in workouts, and the lack of a workout partner. The research highlighted the value of a gym partner in overcoming these barriers, with a significant majority of respondents stating that a training companion boosts their confidence and motivation.

With the introduction of the "Gym Buddy" badge on Bumble, Bumble For Friends mode, and the Bumble For Friends app, users can easily find others looking for a workout partner. This badge encourages users to connect over shared fitness goals, whether starting weight training for the first time or aiming for a personal best. The feature facilitates real-life meetings, allowing members to work towards their fitness goals together.

Dr. Josephine Perry, a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist, commented on the initiative, noting that gym intimidation can deter many from regular training, thus depriving them of the mental and physical benefits of exercise. She emphasized the positive impact of having a gym buddy, including increased enjoyment and effectiveness of workouts.

Aimee Arana, adidas Global General Manager of Sportswear & Training, expressed that community-first solutions are crucial in overcoming self-imposed training barriers. The partnership with Bumble, known for creating empowering community connections, is in line with Adidas's goal to assist athletes of all levels in becoming stronger and achieving their individual training goals. Olivia Yu, Bumble's Global VP of Partnerships, also highlighted the importance of emotional support and empowerment in forming connections, whether romantic or platonic, to challenge gym intimidation.

Through this partnership, Adidas and Bumble are not only addressing a common barrier in the fitness world but also fostering a community where gym enthusiasts can support and motivate each other.
