The Sports Facilities Companies, which manages the largest network of sports and recreation facilities in the nation, has reported that the demand for facilities with pickleball courts has reached an all-time high in 2024. According to SFC, nearly half of their facilities now accommodate pickleball, led by the newly opened Rhythm and Rally Sports and Events in Macon, Georgia. This venue has been touted as the world's largest indoor pickleball facility after transforming a vacant mall into a state-of-the-art sports hub.

In addition to Rhythm and Rally, SFC has announced it will manage the Lake Kennedy Racquet Center, which is currently under construction in Cape Coral, Florida. Set to open in July 2024, this facility is designed to become a central hub for both competitive and recreational pickleball players. It features 32 permanent pickleball courts alongside 12 tennis courts.

The surge in pickleball's popularity has significantly influenced community planning and facility development. SFC reports that over 90% of community planners and facility developers are considering the inclusion of pickleball in their feasibility studies for new complexes. For venues without permanent courts, SFC highlights the ease of converting existing playing surfaces to accommodate pickleball courts.

"Pickleball is more than a sport; it's a catalyst for community development and social engagement," said Jason Clement, CEO of The Sports Facilities Companies. "Through the establishment of facilities like Rhythm and Rally and the upcoming Lake Kennedy Racquet Center, we are not only meeting current demands but are also influencing the future of urban sports facilities."

The rapid rise in pickleball's popularity is not only transforming sports facilities but is also making a significant impact on the fitness industry. The rapid growth of pickleball is reshaping the fitness industry, drawing in new enthusiasts and providing additional revenue streams for facilities. As the sport continues to gain popularity, it fosters greater community engagement and encourages a more active lifestyle among players of all ages. With the inclusion of pickleball courts in more recreation centers and complexes, the fitness industry is poised to expand its reach, offering diverse activities that cater to a broader audience. This surge not only reflects a trend towards more versatile and inclusive fitness options but also highlights the evolving nature of recreational sports in promoting health and wellness nationwide.
