Dr. Michael Hosking on GLP-1s, Exercise Neuroscience, and Mindfulness

Krissy Vann | Host, All Things Fitness and Wellness

In the latest episode of "All Things Fitness and Wellness," host Krissy Vann welcomes Dr. Michael Hosking, a Ph.D. in Biology from Indiana University and former faculty member at Davidson College. Dr. Hosking is a lifelong athlete and avid cyclist who has spent over 30 years in competitive cycling. His journey took a pivotal turn in 2010 when he experienced a debilitating episode of depression and PTSD. Traditional antidepressants offered no relief, but rediscovering cycling and embracing mindfulness brought him a path to recovery.

Dr. Hosking's recovery sparked a deep interest in the revolutionary science connecting mindfulness, neuroplasticity, neurogenesis, and exercise. This led him to study with John Ratey, M.D., of Harvard Medical School and ultimately create Revocycle Mind and Body Cycling, a mindfulness-based, mental- and holistic-health oriented indoor cycling program.

In this episode, Dr. Hosking dives into the neuroscience of exercise, the need for a united approach in the fitness industry regarding GLP-1s, and strategies to tackle the obesity crisis. He shares insights on how combining mindfulness with physical activity can revolutionize mental health, offering a comprehensive perspective on the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being.
