The Global Wellness Summit has recently released its Future of Wellness 2023 Global Trends Report, highlighting trends that are forecast to impact the wellness economy in 2023 and beyond. All Things Fitness and Wellness explored five of the trends and how they’re expected to shape the future of wellness.
Blue Wellness: Focus on water-based wellness is increasing, with new hot spring destinations and revamps of old concepts aimed at promoting social connection. Examples include Reykjavik’s Sky Lagoon with its swim-up bar and Australia’s Peninsula Hot Springs with its amphitheater. Cold water swimming-popularized in the UK-is also gaining traction with social swimming groups becoming a part of the resort experience at Hotel J in Sweden and New York’s Mohonk Mountain House.
Multisensory Integration: Brands are combining light, sound, taste, smell and touch to create elevated wellness experiences, as confirmed by neuroscience. A great example of this is The Vessel by Senkiva, a luxury, multi-sensory virtual reality wellness experience that has been equated to a brain massage.
Intersection of Wellness and Sports in Hospitality: Hotel chains are now catering to people’s desires for professional-quality workout facilities and social media has fueled interest in regular people training and recovering like athletes. Concepts like Siro, a fitness and recovery hotel, are emerging globally to meet this demand. Siro is planning on opening locations in Dubai and Montenegro by 2024.
Workplace Wellness: Despite companies paying lip service to workplace wellness, pressure, workload, and burnout are still prevalent problems. A recent study highlighted that 38% of workers hate their jobs so much they wouldn’t wish it on their worst enemy. Companies are moving away from mental health fodder and creating meaningful solutions such as extended vacation time, disconnecting from emails after hours, and offsite gatherings at wellness resorts.
Bio Tech Beauty: Clean beauty has been a hot topic in the beauty industry for the past few years, with many bloggers and influencers promoting the use of natural and organic products. However, it seems that the tide is now changing, and people are starting to favor a more scientific approach to beauty. Consumers are now looking for result-driven beauty technologies that bring the medi-spa experience into their homes. Beauty bloggers and influencers are now showcasing scientific formulations and innovations that are proving to be more effective than natural extracts.
