ABC Fitness has released its first-ever Q1 Wellness Watch report. The report offers an in-depth analysis of member and consumer data collected from the company's four platforms: ABC Ignite, ABC Glofox, ABC Evo, and ABC Trainerize. The findings indicate a significant rise in check-ins for Q1 2024 compared to Q1 2023, with a 60% increase in traditional gyms and a 22% rise in fitness studios and boutiques.

The report highlights a robust year-over-year check-in data trend, showing overall utilization nearly doubling pre-pandemic levels. The total number of check-ins in the US reached 184 million. While net new joins in fitness studios saw an 11% increase, traditional gyms remained flat. Notably, Gen Z accounted for 29% of new memberships.

“People around the world are recognizing the importance of fitness for their physical and mental wellbeing, and now we are seeing more people recognize the social benefit as well,” stated Bill Davis, CEO of ABC Fitness. “The fitness industry is poised to help more people in more ways than ever before as fitness businesses emerge as a strong driver of community.”

The demand for personal training continues to rise, with 38% of Gen Z and 29% of the total population choosing to use a trainer or coach. ABC Trainerize reported a 78% increase in new clients year-over-year, underscoring this growing trend.

The Q1 Wellness Watch also categorizes fitness enthusiasts into four segments: Routine Lifers, Wellness Lovers, Fitness Explorers, and Casual Consumers. This segmentation helps fitness businesses better understand their target audiences. In the US, new memberships were nearly evenly split between men and women. The majority of those surveyed identified as Fitness Explorers and Wellness Lovers, reflecting a 4% and 6% increase, respectively, from the previous year.

The report encompasses global trends, drawing data from 40 million members and over 30,000 fitness businesses across more than 100 countries, between January and March 2024. ABC Fitness plans to release findings from each quarter in the Wellness Watch reports, featuring insights from industry experts and practical takeaways for fitness businesses of all sizes and locations.
