Planet Fitness recently concluded its High School Summer Pass initiative, which drew participation from more than 3 million high school students this year. The program, now in its third year, spanned from May 15 to August 31, offering free access to Planet Fitness' 2,400+ locations across the United States and Canada for high schoolers aged 14 to 19.
A study by the University of Georgia revealed that 75 percent of teenagers aren't meeting the recommended daily exercise levels. The High School Summer Pass program aimed to address this issue, especially during the summer months when students often lack access to structured fitness programs. Impressively, 93 percent of the participating teenagers believed that this program would help them develop lasting health and wellness habits.
Planet Fitness CEO, Chris Rondeau, highlighted the significance of welcoming more than 3 million teens into their fitness centers, where they collectively completed over 14.5 million workouts.
A survey conducted among High School Summer Pass participants and their parents unveiled several positive outcomes. Notably, 87 percent of teenagers reported improved mental health, while 88 percent experienced increased energy levels. Furthermore, 84 percent of parents noted that their teens' participation had inspired other family members to become more physically active.
To encourage fitness participation, Planet Fitness organized the High School Summer Pass Contest, offering $100,000 in academic scholarships to selected teens and schools. The scholarships can be used for academic or athletic pursuits. This component adds an educational dimension to the program's overall impact.
