As inflation rates rise, grocery bills are becoming more expensive, making it challenging to eat healthy and stay within a budget. However, there are ways to make your food last longer and save money on your grocery bills. In this blog, we'll explore some practical tips from Alyssa Bauman, a Certified Nutritionist and CEO of Nourished by Alyssa, to help you maximize the lifespan of your grocery haul.

Store Your Produce Correctly One of the biggest culprits of food waste is improper storage of produce. Fruits and vegetables release ethylene gas, which can cause other fruits and vegetables to ripen and spoil faster. To prevent this, separate fruits and vegetables and store them in different drawers or containers. Additionally, some produce like tomatoes and avocados should not be stored in the fridge as it can cause them to spoil quicker. Alyssa suggests storing these items on the countertop until they are ripe, then transferring them to the fridge to extend their lifespan.

Prep Your Meals in Advance Meal prepping can not only save you time but also money. Alyssa recommends setting aside time each week to plan and prepare your meals in advance. This way, you can buy ingredients in bulk and use them to create multiple meals. Additionally, you can chop vegetables and store them in the fridge to make meal prep even quicker.

In the video Alyssa shares tips on implementing these practical and easy-to-follow tips, you can maximize the lifespan of your grocery haul, save money, and eat healthier by minimizing food waste.
